If you are an entrepreneur in Uganda, competition shouldn’t be the top thing among your list of worries. On the contrary, you must always think of the eco-system that will support your idea. If you are thinking of turning your village into a tourist hub, think of the eco-system that should support that. What kind of eco-system supports tourism business?

Take an example of Nkokonjeru. If I chose to construct some cottages. I must actively find other people that are playing a part in the entire eco-system. Think of musician Paul Kafeero’s burial grounds. Think of the Bayimba Island at Lunkulu. Think of the Nkokonjeru hospital, think of the transport infrastructure. What if a tourist wants to pray on a Sunday? Well, then the Nkokonjeru catholic community comes into the picture.

Every Ugandan entrepreneur must always be eco-system aware. It’s best to know this upfront and build with an eco-system mindset. Otherwise most business ideas have gone to the pits because we forget to think eco-systems. We forget to design with these in mind.
